Memories and More (Photography) specializes in a photojournalistic style of capturing what should be one of the most exciting moments of your life. I believe that wedding photos should tell the story of your special day. My favorite quote is “We do not remember days. We remember moments". Your photos should be a

reminder of all the special “moments” that you had throughout your day. When you look back at your photos you will want to relive each memory and emotion that was created by that moment in time. That is why I don’t hire for the hour but for the day. That day my number one priority is you and capturing all those moments of the day in a non intrusive way.

I am a very personal photographer and will develop a relationship with you prior to your wedding. I want you and your family to feel relaxed around me. That way when everyone is gathered together there is a fun & relaxed atmosphere.  That it is when the best natural photos are taken.  Posed & traditional photos are important but so are the little moments when you don’t realize I’m taking your photo. Those are the ones you look back on with fond memories of the day.

I do work with a second shooter to ensure that nothing is missed during the day and that all angles are covered. I would love to discuss building a relationship with you and helping you create and preserve the moments of your wedding.

Travel: There's Just Something About Venice & Mexico... Is It Safe?

There is something about Venice. This 2000 year old city built on petrified wooden stilts, tall old buildings and narrow streets rule this unique city. It consists of just 118 small islands (city blocks) all joined by bridges that stretch over the 120 canals and no cars allowed. All transportation is bus city bus (a small ferry) or a water taxi. The doors of the homes and hotels open directly to the

water to receive the visitors. It is unlike anything imaginable. Mystic in its long history and Venetian ways, but as the newest addition to Italy it is just 200 years old. I adored the historical sites, but must confess my favorite memories of this city are of walking through the narrow streets tasting all it has to offer: pizzeria, cafes, patisseries (pastry shop) and gelato shops abound. If you ask directions to anywhere you will be politely told "go over 4 bridges, past 3 cafes, a pizzeria and 2 gelato shops on the left." All things measured by food and bridges, charming. But, if you feel lost just follow the signs to The Ferrovia "the train" (at the cities beginning) or the signs to St. Mark's Square "Piazzetta" (at the cities end). The signs will kindly lead you through the windy ways and over the bridges until you arrive back to your destination. When planning a honeymoon to Italy be sure to include this romantic and charming city on your itinerary.

Is Mexico Safe?

You have no doubt heard of the recent news on Mexico. Scary headlines everywhere about violence and drug cartel gun fights. It is true. Mexico has drug gangs and violence. It is a huge country, like the Unites States, it has its violent areas and gang problems. It is NOT true that you should be afraid to visit Mexico. The tourist areas remain unaffected by the violence which is localized mostly on the boarder and the non tourist inland areas. Mexico remains the #1 tourist destination by American for many reasons and it will remain #1 beyond the bad and often inflated press. My advice to all my travelers is simple: make smart and safe choices just like you were in the States, do not leave your resorts at night, do not walk off of the resorts on non tourist roadways. There is no difference between safety in Mexico and a visit to downtown Detroit or Compton. Use your head and keep yourself safe. Mexico has a lot to offer: beautiful beaches, rich culture, exciting excursions and friendly people. Mexico is full of romance and natural beauty and is a wonderful choice for a memorable honeymoon.
Thank you,

April Schmitt

Tips From the Pros

Taking Better Honeymoon Pictures What goes best after your wedding?  Your honeymoon, of course!  And who doesn’t want great photos of that?  While it would be great to take your photographer along (and many of us would love to go!), most couples will be taking their own photographs.

Here are some tips to make yours even better.

1.    Set the stage.  Take some detail-oriented pictures.  Get close….and then a little closer.   What makes where you are unique?  Photograph that.  Try flowers, funny street signs, temples and churches, interesting architectural features...anything that gives a little clue to where you are.  Then add one or two nice landscapes or skylines. For the most impact, take those at sunrise or sunset.
2.    Banish the flash.  Whenever possible, leave the flash off.  You’ll eliminate red eye, glaring foreheads, and pasty skin tones, and you’ll create images that convey moods and ambience.
3.    Bring some tissues.  Nope, these are not just for your tears of joy. Tissues soften the light for those photographs that just won’t happen without the flash.  A thin piece of white paper or a paper napkin work just as well.  Double it up, hold it over your flash, and snap away!  Just don’t cover the lens.
4.    Take advantage of your camera’s brain.   For great silhouetted sunset photos of yourselves, set your camera to Landscape/Nature mode or anything that looks like a mountain (use Program mode or Aperture priority mode and a small aperture--f/8 or f/11--for those with more advanced D-SLRs), leave the flash off, and compose the picture with your sweetie in it so you’ll know where to stand.  Then use the timer or recruit a passerby to push the button, and jump in the frame.
5.    Cameras like naps, too.  Put your camera away from noon until about 3pm.  Photographically speaking, midday light is the worst.  If you do take midday photos, look for naturally shaded areas that let the light come in softly….think porches, overhangs or indoors near windows.

Flowering Branches - After winter has come and gone the blooming branches of Spring are a beautiful treat of the months to come.  Taking much inspiration from nature, we are seeing that blooming branches have taken their stake in wedding floral design.  Whether used in a centerpiece, as a wow factor for your place card display, or as a grand backdrop for your ceremony, there is something so organic, yet sophisticated about this look.

Some of the most popular branches to use include: forsythia, flowering quince, saucer magnolias, cherry, pear, and cercis blooming branches.  Colors available include shades of pinks, whites and yellow depending on plant type.

Because these branches are found at Spring’s introduction, Summer & Winter brides don’t have the option of using these beauties.  There are however ways of achieving this look with a little creativity.  Branches such as manzanita, birch, curly willow and other twigs can have blossoms added which results in the same overall feel.  One of my favorite blooms to use is the dendrobium orchid.  Creating hanging leis and adding a little glitz gives just enough to soften the lines of a manzanita tree and create a beautiful display.

For more information or ways you can add this infusion of spring to your wedding, contact us to set-up a personal consultation where we can better assist you and your decor needs.

Save money, have a fun wedding and leave your guests wanting more! Ever come to the end of a great concert or a fabulous movie… wishing it didn’t end? Designing an environment for your wedding that creates the same thing---all while saving you money---is easily achieved. Step one:  select a professional wedding entertainment company which specializes in designing unique and fun wedding celebrations that are like a well orchestrated and choreographed event… without seeming like one.

Step two: Work with your entertainment designer to create unique moments that create an inviting and warm atmosphere for your guests, a unique approach that reflects your personality and well thought out and planned moments so that each event at your wedding flows seamlessly.
Step three: Create a timeline that allows for a comfortable amount of time for each event with an appropriate and thought out pace. Though each wedding can have it’s own timing and elements (and in no way is there a “standard” that you have to follow when you create your wedding timeline), a good benchmark to begin from could include:
0:00      Guest Arrival
0:30      Ceremony Begins
1:00      Ceremony Concludes
            Guests Invited To Reception
Family and Bridal Party to Pictures
1:45      Introductions and Formalities
2:00      Meal Service
3:00      Toasting
3:15      Cake Cutting
3:20      First Dance / Spotlight Dances
3:30      Open Dance Floor
4:00      Formalities and Traditions Desired (Garter, Bouquet, Money Dance, Envelope Exchange, Well Wish Dance, etc…)
4:15      Open Dance Floor
5:00      Conclusion

Approximate run time from start to finish: 5 hours.

NOTE: This is one of many timeline designs you can use. Work with your wedding entertainment specialist or your fabulous wedding planner and designer to create a timeline that will fit your individual style and tastes.

Step four: Leave your guests wanting more… and save money. A great wedding entertainment specialist can work to insure that your guests have the time of their lives in 60 to 90 minutes on the dance floor. If the entertainment you selected includes a portion of their pricing on the amount of time performed, you may want to work with them to create a timeline that is fun, high impact and provides just enough time for everyone to enjoy themselves. If you have a desire for more dancing or if your wedding is structured to be a party, work with your entertainment specialist and wedding planner to insure that you achieve your desired vision on a realistic and appropriate timeline to accommodate you. Again, the key is to create each moment with a certain degree of flair (appropriate to your vision and taste) while incorporating smooth transitions from one event to the next to ultimately give you the wedding of your dreams.

Matt Brys, Extreme Productions

Plan Your Photos - We consistently find that the list of ‘Must-Have’ photos we’re handed goes out the window as time disappears on the wedding day. The easiest way to insure time for terrific photos is to step from tradition and have the bride and groom get together before the ceremony. Even a half hour to slip away from the stress of the event always yields treasured photographs. Have your photographer plan this out and scout locations beforehand.

To some, this is unheard of, so for those, we recommend doing another shoot on the day after the wedding, if you’re not on a jet somewhere. Some call it ‘Trash the Dress’ but it doesn’t have to be that – we love spending casual time with our couple, enjoying the day and doing unexpected things for a wedding day. Couples enjoy it as their ‘first day of married life photography’. Finding time for a visit to a beach, a hike to your favorite tree, visiting your fav bistro, will allow for a fun day for terrific photos – with no clock to watch!

Advice From Amy Nicole

April Showers- Spring is here-‘tis the season for bridal showers. It’s time for sherbet punch, finger sandwiches, wedding word searches and toilet paper wedding dress competitions. And of course the seemingly endless unwrapping of the gifts where guests are expected to watch attentively and throw in a few ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ of surprise even though everything came from the registry. Why does this medieval torture still take place? Don’t panic-I am not saying do away with them, I am just saying I believe it is possible to throw a shower where the bride gets all kinds of goodies and the guests have fun.

So for starters out with the opening of gifts. Please! No one opens gifts at a wedding-it would be considered tacky and not to mention it would take forever. Yet, this is exactly what happens at showers. Instead, show your appreciation with a thank you card and a heartfelt note. It is the appropriate gesture for wedding gifts. I

believe the same will be accepted for the shower. Imagine the surprise and delight from your family and friends when they hear that the gifts will be opened later.

As for the games, let’s focus on the whole point of the shower first. It is to celebrate with a bride to be, to show support and help prepare her for marriage. So maybe the silly games that make us feel like we are at a 5 year old birthday party are not necessary. And exactly what kind of support are we giving the bride when we take safety pins from each other when we forget the ‘no crossing your legs’ rule? Of all the showers I have been to(I assure you it is A Lot!), the best one had a trivia game about the bride and the couple. It’s an opportunity to share things about you and your man and it gets everyone talking and sharing stories. Think about how many ’25 things’ lists you have read on Facebook and how much you learned about your friends that you didn’t know before. It is far more interesting and entertaining than any ‘remember all the items’ on the tray game. Your friends learn more about your relationship, your friends meet your family and everyone leaves more excited to celebrate with you and see each other at the wedding.

And for goodness sakes, serve some cocktails or champagne. There is really nothing to explain about that.
